Summary: The Database Administrator will provide enterprise-wide administration and production support for corporate databases. Including but not limited to, installing, testing, configuring, monitoring, performance tuning, security, and developing evaluation plans, education programs, corporate policies and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities
• Database Performance Evaluation and Tuning. •
• Develop and implement performance metrics and reporting. •
• Monitor databases using various performance monitoring tools. •
• Communicate existing and/or potential performance issues to appropriate support groups. •
• Recommend and implement changes or processes to improve performance levels.
• Database Space Management/Capacity Analysis. •
• Monitor and manage the growth of data files, database objects, and space usage. •
• Recommend and perform database reorganizations. •
• Participate in capacity planning activities.
• Database Backup / Recovery / Disaster Recovery. •
• Develop and implement backup procedures for each database that ensure database recoverability within negotiated customer specifications. •
• Identify and communicate the extent of database damage. •
• Coordinate database recovery efforts with appropriate support groups and affected business units • Define, create and maintain database disaster recovery plan. •
• Support all activities to facilitate implementation of the defined disaster recovery plan.
• Problem Resolution/Avoidance. •
• Provide problem recognition and resolution support to appropriate support groups and internal/external customers. •
• Recognize, design, administer, or arrange continuing education programs for users.
• General Consulting/Proactive Intervention. •
• Provide consulting support to appropriate support groups and internal/external customers. •
• Maintain a high level of technical knowledge through education and training. •
• Participate in the selection of the database management system & other related software.
• Application Development Project Lifecycle (SDP). •
• Plan, coordinate, implement database objects and/or database object modifications to support application maintenance or enhancement release initiatives. •
• Activities may include but are not limited to:
1) providing DBA activities, scoping and timeframes to the project management process.
2) creating/modifying indexes, tables or other database objects.
3) migration of database physical structures from development through production.
4) providing technical consultation for application problem resolution.
5) providing technical consultation for Applications Development on data manipulation and data migration issues.
• Database Security. •
• Protect the integrity of the database. •
• Adhere to the published Corporate Security Standards for each DBMS. •
• Define and implement the process to maintain database security.
• Database Security/Policy/Procedure/Documentation. •
• Protect the integrity of the database. •

• Develop, maintain, communicate and adhere to defined standards, policies and procedures.
• Installation/Patches/Upgrades of Database Software. •
• Plan, test and implement new database software releases, patches, upgrades, maintenance or enhancement initiatives.
• Physical Database Design. •
• Participate in logical database designing activities with appropriate groups. •
• Develop and create the physical database design. •
• Convert the physical database design into the physical database structures appropriate for the operating system platform and DBMS.

Minimum Qualifications
• In-depth knowledge of specified database tools, methodologies, and configuration.
• In-depth knowledge of hierarchical and relational database management systems administration.
• In-depth knowledge of structured systems analysis and design with special emphasis in systems administration, project management, user relations, data integrity and data gathering techniques.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• BS degree in IT related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum four years’ experience administering specified database platform.
• Level I certification in specified database platform preferred.
