Evolution of Enterprise Storage for Relational Databases
Evolution of Enterprise Storage for Relational Databases
The how and why for provisioning virtualized, disk-based solutions
Robert Ball, Symantec
Joe D'Angelo, Symantec
In this session attendees will be given an introductory primer to the various disk-based storage technologies available on the market today and how they have evolved from local, direct-attached RAID arrays to the more advanced SAN and NAS controllers.
Included with the discussion will be a brief look under the hood of what exactly is required to effectively provision storage from the spindle to the file system for disparate application and database workloads. Additional topics to be covered include a comparison of the current disk subsystem manufacturers and how best to leverage both hardware as well as software-based utilities to maximize database performance and management efficiency while effectively controlling cost.

High Availability and Storage Management Demos
High Availability and Storage Management Demos
Sai Mukundan, Symantec
This session will go over demos of some of the Symantec High Availability and Storage Management solutions. We will dive into specific use cases around multi-tier application availability, fast failover for Single Instance Oracle, database snapshots for backup, off-host processing and recovery; and space-optimized database copies for replicating from primary site to secondary site.
