Explainable AI
Rob Rolleston, Paychex

The use of artificial intelligence in decision making processes brings efficiency and data-driven results, but also risks. Machine learning algorithms are models which make predictions based upon patterns learned from past data. The reasoning behind these decisions is not available to the users of the models, or recipients dealing with the consequences of the decisions. For example, sales may not know why a business is a good potential client, and credit may not know why a person is granted or denied credit. This talk will present reasons and examples of adding explanations to machine learning algorithms, so that users will have greater confidence and insight into machine-driven decisions.

Rob Rolleston is the Manager, Data Science at Paychex. Previously Rob worked at Xerox in the areas of Information Visualization, Strategy & Planning, and Color Management. He has 47 issued patents, and numerous technical publications and presentations. He received his B.S. in Computational Physics from Carnegie-Mellon University, his M.S. and Ph. D. in Optics from the University of Rochester, and an MPS Degree in Information Visualization from Maryland Institute College of Arts, and is now an instructor for MICA where he teaches statistics and data analysis. Rob also been an adjunct professor and instructor at Rochester Institute of Technology. He has served on the Executive Advisory Board for the New York State Center for Electronic Imaging Systems, the Advisory Board for the Rochester Institute of Technology Center for Imaging Science, was chair of the Xerox University Affairs Committee, is on the advisory board for Saint John Fisher College Data Science Program, and Co-Chair of the ROC Data Science Meet-Up.

HOW and WHY we architect solutions at ITEC
Dan Brint, SUNY ITEC

In this session I will discuss my role as 'Architect' and the processes that we follow at ITEC in order to design sound solutions. I will discuss my roll on some of our largest projects - DegreeWorks, Ensemble, DataCenter migration and our Banner 9 Reference Architecture. I will share with you the overall process itself as well as artifacts that are created during the 'architecting' process.

An IT professional with 25+ years’ experience in Oracle technologies, I am currently designing the IT architecture for our next generation service offerings in Higher Education.
I am a certified ITSM practitioner (ITIL v3 Foundation & Service Design) as well as a TOGAF V9 certified enterprise architect.
I am a father of two, a casual photographer and I have an appreciation for art, literature, cinema, music, motorcycles, bicycles and video gaming as well as more geeky stuff such as Architecture, Big Data, Data Visualization, Industrial Design, TED, Formula 1 , and most recently Volvo Ocean & Americas Cup Racing.

Oracle Cloud Hubs
Kranthi Manchikanti, Oracle Cloud Solution Engineer, Platform Specialist
Sugandha Kher, Oracle Cloud Solution Engineer

1. Who we are:

a. Oracle’s Cloud Solution Hubs are unique facilities where our solution engineers come together to build innovative industry cloud solutions, providing a range of engineering services to Oracle Sales and our customers.

b. Currently we have locations in Bangalore, India; Austin, Texas; Reston, Virginia; Burlington, Massachusetts and Santa Monica, California. New locations are opening up soon to contribute to the portfolio of solutions and talent already available.

c. The people that make up Oracle Cloud Solution Hubs come from many different fields and backgrounds. To help in the creation of your business vision, we’ve sought out the best and most talented full-stack developers, cloud success managers, cloud architects, creative designers, and much more.

2. Empowering Business users with Oracle Machine Learning and Data Visualization cloud for Prediction and Forecasting

a. Empower business users to forecast their future by working with all their data using Oracle Machine Learning and Data Visualization Cloud. This bike sharing scenario shows how Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Analytics Cloud use machine learning to combine and analyze data for optimal business results. Machine Learning at scale is applied to solve business problems – predict sales, prevent stock outs, predict delays, prevent customer churn, predict maintenance.

b. How to drive innovation from rapid experimentation at reduced risk

c. How to leapfrog competition by leveraging deeper insights from ALL data

d. How to optimize the business by applying scientific methods to make complex decisions.

3. Data Marketplace - One unified platform to manage data across different LOBs.

a. Data Marketplace is a catalogue of data sets that allows users to gain access to these data sets through admin approval. The admin owns all rights to these data sets and can either approve or deny requests. Data Marketplace is unique because it allows all data sets to be stored in one central place. This eliminates the time consuming task of sifting through irrelevant data. Data Marketplace is made possible by using Oracles Application Express on top of Oracles Autonomous Data warehouse. From there Data Visualization Desktop can be used to gain further insights into the data.

I have to support what!? SQL, Oracle, and Mongo - A side by side “how to”
Mike Grayson

More and more companies are starting to invest in multiple database platforms and DBAs are needing to develop a skillset to support a mixed-database environment. Database concepts are often the same between platforms, however, the “how” can be very different (and sometimes not different at all!). Starting with the basics and gradually moving into the more advanced; this session will show you how to perform the same task in SQL Server, Oracle, and Mongo. Take a leap and start your journey in to the multi-platform world!

Mike Grayson is a MongoDB Master since 2016 with close to a decade's worth of Database Administration under his belt. He's currently working as a Sr. Database Engineer at Paychex in Rochester, New York. He blogs at mongomike.wordpress.com/blog and has spoke at several MongoDB, Oracle and SQL Server events both locally and nationally. He's administered a myriad of database types during his time as a Database Engineer as well as Hadoop, Apache Spark and Apache Kafka.
