Datacenter Migration
Datacenter Migration – Designing a Service Migration Factory
Dan Brint, SUNY Information Technology Exchange Center
For the last 2+ years ITEC has been migrating its datacenter - in this session we will share up the processes that we developed in DESIGNING our “Migration Factory”.
We will discuss the processes themselves as well as the thinking that went into their design. We won’t dive into any great technical details but hopefully through this talk you will come to appreciate the scale of an undertaking such as this, the effort and thinking that went into the planning of its execution, and the graceful simplicity of the overall solution.
A second session, to be held at a later date, will speak from a project manager's perspective and will discuss RUNNING the “Migration Factory” and how we have managed to stay on target throughout the duration of such a lengthy endeavor while adopting a new-to-us project management methodology and convincing key stakeholders to ‘trust us’.
An IT professional with 25+ years experience in Oracle technologies, I am currently designing the IT architecture for our next generation service offerings in Higher Education.
I am a certified ITSM practitioner (ITIL v3 Foundation & Service Design) as well as a TOGAF V9 certified enterprise architect.
I am a father of two, a casual photographer and I have an appreciation for art, literature, cinema, music, motorcycles, bicycles and video gaming as well as more geeky stuff such as Architecture, Big Data, Data Visualization, Industrial Design, TED, Formula 1 , and most recently Volvo Ocean & Americas Cup Racing.
