Description:
Polaris Search Network, a North American search firm with a specialty in Information Technology, is currently recruiting a Senior Programmer Analyst in New York.

Summary
The Senior Programmer Analyst plans, designs, develops, tests, debugs, documents and implements new systems or changes in existing systems. Studies information needs for current and planned management functions and analyzes sources of required data and methods.  S/he designs methods for controlling access to secure information and for measuring the accuracy of data.  The position reports to the Project Manager/Manager for Applications Development and Maintenance. To be considered for this position, you must be legally authorized to work in the United States, have project or people management experience and extensive PL/SQL Oracle.  The right candidatew will also have excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:
Meets with users to understand project needs and requirements.
Studies and analyzes information needs for current and planned management functions and develops functional specifications.
Leads single or multiple teams in system design, coding, testing, debugging & documentation of complex projects.
Prepares all necessary documentation and hand-offs for migrating applications to production environment.  Includes user, management and operations signoff.
Generates test data and test plans to ensure proper rollout.
Troubleshoots and debugs technically complex production problems.
Documents modifications to existing programs and systems, as well as any new systems developed, providing such documentation files.
Answers user questions about Information Technology application systems regarding actual procedural steps to enhancements.
Assists programmers by providing technical guidance as to the most effective method and logic to use in preparing complex programs and assists them in resolving difficult programming procedures.
Makes presentation of findings, recommendations, and specifications in formal reports and oral presentations.
Works well in team environment for sharing of technical knowledge.
Keeps project manager well informed of project status.
Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
May work on special projects from time to time.

Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field -or- equivalent of seven (7) years experience in Information Technology required.
2-4 years experience in on-line/HTML programming & SQL/Unix scripting.
Organizational and communication skills.
Experience in a client server environment with UNIX servers and PC workstations.
Extensive experience in UNIX, ORACLE or SQLServer, SQL*PLUS, PL/SQL, and Pro*C.
Participated in Development or Maintenance of various ORACLE/SQL based applications.
Experience in requirements analysis and software design.
Experience with Workflow, Imaging, APEX and BRIO a plus.
Self motivated individual with a drive to learn and share new technologies.
Business experience with Banner Higher Education systems or equivalent environment is strongly preferred.
This position is subject to a comprehensive background screen, with employment contingent upon satisfactory results. If access to a University vehicle is required for the position, a DMV check for driving record and valid driver’s license is also required.
