Building a Solution Strategy - Oracle on Power 7 Architecture
Jim Smith, IBM

This presentation reviews the IBM - Oracle Alliance and their shared commitment to client value.  It provides insight to the current & future Power Systems products, and defines the vale to Oracle-based solutions of Power Systems virtualization.  IBM's competitive advantage for Oracle solutions begins with fewer, faster processor cores, resulting in lower annual software costs, and less complex hardware infrastructures.

Jim Smith, System Architect in IBM’s Sales & Distribution organization, has over 25 years of information technology experience, specializing in the areas of complex IT infrastructure architecture, storage area networking, high availability, server consolidation, data warehousing, and network security. His project expertise centers on technology infrastructure design and implementation, with a focus on coexistence between disparate operating environments and platform architectures. He has worked with clients in various industries, including government, education, manufacturing, insurance and financial services.

SQLTXPLAIN
Bryan Grenn, Paychex & UNYOUG Technical Chair

SQLTXPLAIN (or SQLT) is a tool that helps to diagnose SQL statements performing poorly. SQLT is often requested by Support or Development to expedite the analysis of SQL performance issues. Bryan will show you what is contained in this tool, and show you examples of the output. He will also share his experiences on how to leverage this tool to make you look like an Oracle Consultant.

Bryan Grenn is an infrastructure architect at Paychex.  He has been an Oracle DBA for 20 years, consulting at many of Rochester's biggest companies.  Bryan has worked as a System Administrator along with being a DBA.  He has experience on most common platforms (Windows, HPUX, AIX, Solaris, and Linux), and has worked with most database features (RAC, compression, partitioning, RAT, XML Database, OLAP).
