Purpose of job:
This role is responsible for Database performance, integrity and security. Additional role requirements include strategy, capacity, and business continuity planning and execution.

Description of job responsibilities and duties:
Install, configure, manage, support, upgrade and tune Oracle database servers on the UNIX platform in addition to SQL Server Databases on a Windows platform.
Achieve results in a team setting by involving other technical services resources, IT development, IT operations, end users, as well as other contracted resources.
Proficient with Oracle 11g with a secondary proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and 2008R2.
Troubleshoot database failures by engaging team members and support vendors to find a quick resolution.
Support IT development to optimize application and database performance.
Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Support recovery and backup of database servers and distributed server backup using native RMAN, and Netbackup tools. Will also be working with native SQL Server backup tools and Netapp Snap Manager for SQL.
Work with others in IT to test recovery of critical business systems to promote business continuity in the event of a disaster.

Required Experience / Skills:
Experience with Database Administration for Oracle and MS SQL Server.
Experience on multiple Operating System platforms including Windows and UNIX environments.
Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle and MS SQL Server.
Experience in implementing operational automation using Powershell and UNIX scripting.
Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
Experience with database security and regulatory compliance concepts and tools including auditing, and encryption.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Interpersonal Savvy - relates well with others, developing collaborative relationships.
Candidates should have a strong customer services focus, be very team oriented, and prepared to work with a team of Relational Database Administrators and Contractors responsible for database administration.
Strong decision-making skills – makes quality and timely decisions based on analysis of data, wisdom, experience and judgment.
Strong communication and organizational skills
Achieving business results - consistently initiates action to get results.
Dealing with ambiguity - can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
Participation in an on-call (24 x 7) rotation is required.

Preferred Skills:
Five plus years experience with Oracle Database Administration.
Experience with Oracle Data Guard replication tool a plus.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
Experience with Security Regulations such as PCI, HIPAA, and privacy and how it relates to the database. Specifically experience with Oracle tools for security ASO (Advanced Security Option), Encryption, Database and Audit Vault, would be a plus.
Retail experiences a plus.
