Location of sqlnet trace files in 11g

I don't know how many of you have traced sql.. It can be helpful to try to find out why an error is occuring or just verifying parameters (like DEFAULT_SDU_SIZE). The way to accomplish this is to 1) create a new subdirectory in /tmp 2) Copy the files from $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin to /tmp/{mydir} 3...

Sun exadata v2

I've been on exadata groups conversing with Others.. I found a hardware specialist in Norway who told me he priced the Sun hardware and found that a 1/2 rack is really only $300,000 US for parts. No one is really arguing the Value of the Exadata.. The Speed numbers are so fast, the question is aroun...

First impressions

I've been putting a lot of thought into the exadata lately, and doing a LOT more research. 1st.  you have to to take a look at your database (the AWR report is good for this)...  are you I/O bound ?  Is your top wait event Disk ?  Then the Exadata will probably give you a big bang.  The more CPU you...

SQLT - A sql tuners best friend.

I've been testing with 11gr2, and trying to compare plans with 10.2.0.4 utilizing "OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLED".. This parameter "should" cause the optimizer to give you same plan on an 11gr2 database that it used in 10gr2.. The idea, is you can run a replay on 11g and 10g optimiz...

System Statistics

The question I like to ask "experts" is what do you think of system statistics and do you trust them ? Here is a great article from Randolph Geist.. He is my favorite Optimizer expert out of Germany.. This is his presentation from OUG UK. http://www.sqltools-plusplus.org:7676/media/System%...
